Little League® International Remembers Steve Sandberg, Quartz Hill Little League Tournament Team Manager

Jul 08, 2023

Little League® International remembers Manager Steve Sandberg, who guided the Quartz Hill Little League (QHLL) to the 2023 Little League Softball® West Region Championship Game.

Mr. Sandberg managed the Southern California representative during this season’s Little League Softball® West Region tournament. The team from Quartz Hill, California, finished with a 3-1 Region tournament record. The team’s only loss came in the region championship game, falling 2-1, to Almaden Little League of San Jose, California.

A volunteer and friend of the QHLL softball community for more than 30 years, Mr. Sandberg coached with his daughter, Heather, and coached his granddaughter, Brookelyn during this season’s Little League International Tournament.

According to the family’s GoFundMe page, Mr. Sandberg was influential in guiding more than 30 of his former softball players on to college rosters.

“The softball community will always remember Coach Steve for his dedication, passion, and huge personality! In his younger years he also did work as a stunt man, if you know him you know that’s not hard to believe! He had a fire inside of him and the question was never who was going to let him, but who was going to stop him? He’s left quite a legacy behind, and we will continue to honor his memory.”

Mr. Sandberg served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.
